[User Interface] [Keyboard Commands] [Options] [Favorites] [Display Window] [Encoder Window] [File Manager] [MP3 Tagger]

User Interface

  1. File. Click the File button to select a file to play. This opens the ConPlay File Manager. (You can also select a single file using "Load File" from the "Misc" menu.)
  2. MP3. This opens the MP3 Tagger window.
  3. Edit: Saves the selected song to a temporary file, then opens the resulting WAV file using the associated program. Use options to set the lead-in and lead-out times. The drop-down menu opens the whole source WAV file using your default application.
  4. Mixer: Opens the Windows mixer in playback mode for your convenience.
  5. Options: Displays the Options window.
  6. Misc: Click here to display the Misc popup menu for additional commands.
  7. Favs: Open the Favorites window.
  8. File time and progress display. Indicates the current position in the file. Click the progress bar to jump to that point in the file.
  9. Sleep Timer: Click multiple times to select sleep time. Window caption will show actual time remaining. When time runs out, ConPlay will shut off your computer.
  10. Media controls. Prev Song, Stop, Play, Next Song.
  11. Always on Top: Activate to keep ConPlay always visible.
  12. Song progress display: Indicates the current position in the song. Click the progress bar to jump to that point in the song.
  13. Program log. Click an entry to start playing from that point. Accuracy will vary.

Misc Menu

  1. Display: Toggle the large display on and off.
  2. Load File: Select a single file to play.
  3. Help: Displays the help document.

This window is sizeable. I suggest just grabbing the bottom or top to make it taller; there is little advantage making it wider. The window caption shows the current song info when playing. If the sleep timer is active, the time remaining is also displayed.

Keyboard commands can be used when the window is active. When the Display window is active, use the indicated hotkeys, V, P and N.

ConPlay uses bookmarks. It keeps track of the song position as it plays. This position is saved when you close the program. When you open the program, it will restore the current file and position. If the file no longer exists, you will be prompted to open a new WAV file.

Press CONTROL-C to copy the current artist and filename to the clipboard. They are separated by an underscore, and all spaces removed, making it suitable for use as a filename.

Keyboard Commands
Available when the ConPlay window is active.
Enter, P or F10 Play / Stop
Comma or F11 Next song
Period or F12 Prev song
1-9, 0 Jump ahead N minutes (0=10)
SHIFT-1-9, 0 Jump back N minutes (0=10)

Options
  1. Show Minutes Only. Shows mmm:ss instead of hh:mm:ss in the program list, to match many audio editors.
  2. Show Duration: Shows the file and song durations on the progress bars.
  3. Play Next File: Skip to the next file after playing the last song, or skipping past the last song.
  4. Skip Songs <1:30: Skips short songs. Right-click to set the minimum duration.
  5. Skip First Song: Often the first song is partial; this will skip the first song.
  6. Skip Last Song: Often the last song is partial; this will skip the last song.
  7. Edit Lead-In and Lead-Out: When saving a song, determines the number of seconds added to the beginning and end of the clip.
  8. Intercept Keys: These function keys will become active even if ConPlay is in the background, allowing you to control playback while working in other programs. May interfere with other software.

Favorites
  1. Save. Saves the selected song clip as a WAV file. You will be prompted for the filename (defaults to artist_song.)
  2. Edit: Saves the selected song, then opens the resulting WAV file using the associated program. Double-clicking the song also does this.
  3. All: Opens the entire original WAV file using the associated program. Useful when the times are not accurate.
  4. Del: Deletes the selected song. You can also use the DEL key.
  5. Help: Opens the help file.

Pressing F8 adds the current song to this list (duplicates are ignored.) Songs are listed with ten seconds extra at both the start and end. Press CTRL-C to copy selected song artist_title.

Note that if you have at least one favorite saved, ConPlay will open this window on startup. Favorites are stored in "ConPlayFavs.txt" in the same folder as the executable.

Display Window
  1. Prev. Jump to the previous song.
  2. Play/Pause: Toggles between play and pause modes.
  3. Next: Jump to the next song.

Left-click anywhere except over a button to drag the window. Right-click to bring up the popup menu.

Encoder Window
  1. Encode. Allows you to select the output file destination, then starts encoding. Press ESC to abort the encoding.
  2. Cancel. Cancels the encoding process.
